Rivalry Turns Sour Over Flowers

LORD mayor Frank Sartor last night accused rival Kathryn Greiner of trying to take the flowers out of spring after she heaped scorn on $1 million floral steet display.
The City of Sydney council installed the display of two weeks before the September 11 election to decide the new Lord Mayor.
Mrs Greiner questioned the timing of the display and the cost of a floral arrangement which will only be visible for six weeks. She said the mayor was pork barrelling and that the money would be better spent cleaning up the streetworks program.
"Mrs Greiner must be getting desperate," Mr Sartor said.
"She promises to rip up city footpaths and now she wants to take the flowers out of spring.
"Living Colour - the council's million dollar spring promotion - was approved by council unanimously more than six months ago. What does Mrs Greiner expect us to do? Reorganise the season?
